How cool is the Whammy pedal?
What do guitarists like Eddie Van Halen, The Edge, Tom Morello, Steve Vai, Robert Smith, Prince, Noel Gallagher, Matthew Bellamy, Jerry Cantrell, Jack White, Dimebag Darrell, and Billie Joe Armstrong have in common besides being great guitarists? They all have used the Digitech Whammy to transform their sound.
The pedal was first introduced in 1989. It is an electronic pitch-shifting and harmonizing pedal, the first pedal of its kind to enable the guitarist to shift the pitch of the note being played to a more extreme degree than the whammy bar.
For an in-depth look at the Whammy WH5 pedal (the 5th and latest generation at this point), check out our YouTube video below where we give a brief history of the pedal, look closely at its functions and settings and provide sound samples.
The Whammy WH 5 is one of my favorite pedals. It's versatile and gets the job done in an easy way. I often use it as an effortless way to tune down my sound as well.
Listen to my song Smiling Coyote played with the Whammy to hear that iconic sound.
